Its new super PAC, Sentinel Action Fund, just funded a million-dollar attack ad, accusing North Carolina Democrat Cheri Beasley of harboring sympathy for cop killers.
“Cheri Beasley’s decision led to the killer escaping the death penalty,” the ad’s narrator says, citing a 2020 state Supreme Court decision.
“In a crime wave, we can’t trust Cheri Beasley in Washington,” the narrator concludes.
Republicans have been attacking Beasley over her judicial record for months, and in the final weeks of the campaign, Sen. Ted Budd will appreciate the outside help from Heritage. The incumbent has watched his lead narrow steadily. He is ahead of his Democratic challenger by just 2.8 points in the RealClearPolitics Average, but the race has become a toss-up on the eve of the midterms.
The contest could determine control of the Senate. The GOP only needs to net one more seat to win the majority. If Beasley defeats Budd though, that goal could move out of reach.
“With Cheri Beasley’s record of being soft on crime and claims that a man who murdered a state trooper is a ‘good person,’ it is clear that North Carolinians can’t trust her in Washington,” Jessica Anderson, president of Sentinel Action Fund, said in statement.
“North Carolina has been a serious victim of the left’s defund the police movement, seeing major violent crime spikes at some of the highest rates in the country,” Anderson added. “The Tar Heel state needs someone they can trust like Ted Budd to back the blue and hold Democrats accountable for their efforts to undermine our police.”
